Back to school theme is one of my favorite preschool August themes. I feel like it’s a great way to ease back into the routine of learning, activities, and crafts after a go-with-the-flow summer! This school year, we have a friend playing and learning with us each day, so I was really excited to get all 3 kids into good routines and plan new crafts and activities for everyone.

Here was our plan for the week:

1 Pencil Names:

I found this adorable freebie and I’m obsessed! Feeling in the template was really easy to do. I had a 3.5, 3, and 2.5 year old working on this activity so we used a few different modifications for each kid. 3.5 year old was given pieces cut up and she glued her name in order on a piece of construction paper. 3 year old was given pieces cut up and his name written on a sticky note. He then glued his name in order by referencing the sticky note. 2.5 year old was given pieces cut up and her name was written on the construction paper. She matched each piece to the letters on her construction paper and glued them down.

2 Name Sensory Bin:

I found these ABC erasers in the Target dollar spot last year (you also could use ABC magnets!). I added the letters of each kid’s name to a bin with pom poms and rice. The kids scooped and poured rice, named the first letter of their name, and practiced building their names!

3 School Bus Dot Marker Activity:

If you’ve followed me for any bit of time, I’m sure you know that I LOVE dot marker and dot sticker activities. They’re my favorite activities to create and some of my preschoolers’ favorite activities to create! The School bus dot marker activity was a hit and I love seeing those fine motor skills in action! Be sure to add this back to school themed activity to your first week of school!

4 School Themed Count and Clip Cards:

I found this freebie from ____. Count and clip cards are always a big hit here and are such a fun way to practice counting. My biggest piece of advice with these is to give your preschoolers some clothespins first to clip on random sheets of paper or a bowl. After the novelty of the clothespins has worn off some, then introduce the count and clip cards!

5 Number Sensory Bin:

For this sensory bin, I just removed the letters from the bin from earlier in the week and added numbers 0-5. (I also got these numbers from the target dollar spot!). I paired this bin with these school bus number find sheets. The kids would find a number and place it on the correct spot on their school bus. 

This was definitely a favorite back to school themed activity with my preschoolers!

6 School Supply Memory Match:

This memory match game freebie was a fun game to add to our week! After we played, we also matched the cards to each supply in the house. This game turned into a great vocabulary building activity too!

7 Crayon Color Matching Craft:

For this activity, I cut up pieces of colored construction paper and we glued them to the correct crayon. Then we glued our crayons onto a piece of cardstock. I will say, this was a long craft that we had to break into smaller chunks. The 3.5 and 3 year olds were able to color match more individually, but my 2.5 year old is still learning colors so we focused on one color at a time. To do this, I pulled out one crayon and one color of construction paper. Every time she glued a square we would say the color.

8 Color Sensory Bin:

This sensory bin was a huge hit! For this bin, put these colored crayon erasers into small containers in the bin and added the letters and numbers we used earlier in the week. The kids were able to sort the letters, numbers, and pom poms into the different containers.

Then, I gave the kids these color finding sheets. They would find a pom pom and put it into the correct star on their sheet.
