These pirate activities for preschool aged kids are perfect for your toddlers and preschoolers! My 3 year old recently became fascinated with pirates, so we decided to make a week of activities out of it! Be sure to read on to get your pirate freebies too!

Pirate Yoga:

My almost 2 year old and 3 year old enjoyed really enjoyed this pirate yoga. All of the cosmic kids videos are easy to follow along with, even for toddlers!

Pirate Dot Marker Activities:

We also did these Pirate Dot Marker Activities. I love doing dot marker and dot sticker activities because they allow my kids to slow down and focus while they’re still having fun! We use these dot markers, but when I buy them again I will be buying these because they’re washable!

Pirate Number Match:

If you’re looking for pirate activities for preschool aged kids, then try this! This Pirate Number Match activity has been a HUGE hit in our house. We have done it everyday since I introduced it. The setup was very easy. I bought some coins from the dollar tree (they have them in the St. Patrick’s Day section around St. Patrick’s Day AND in the party section as a bag of 30!) and added some dot stickers with number 1-5 on them. Then I put a 2lb bag of kinetic sand in a bin and hid the coins in the sand. My toddlers go on a “treasure hunt” and help the pirate complete his treasure map by matching the numbers on the coin to the numbers on the map! 

My 3 year old has been working on number recognition with numbers 1-5 for a few weeks now, so she has been OBSESSED with this number match! You could do colors, shapes, or letters on the coins as well!

Playdough Fine Motor Treasure Hunt:

This is such an easy activity that your toddler will LOVE! All you’ll need to do is mix some gems, beads, and stones into playdough. If you’re interested in making your own playdough, you can find my playdough recipe here (and other great sensory recipes!)!

Then I gave my toddler the playdough, these gator grabber tweezers, and a small treasure chest. She dug through the playdough the find all the treasure. Eventually, she stopped using the gator grabber tweezers and started using her hands because she wanted to go faster. 

This is SUCH A GREAT fine motor activity! The playdough provides the perfect amount of resistance too!

Pirate Hats & Eye Patches:

No Pirate theme is complete without Pirate gear, so we made some pirate hats and eye patches to dress up in! We chose to just print, cut, and assemble, but these would be super cute if you let your toddlers color them too!

Play Couch Pirate Ship:

Once we were dressed up like pirates, I let my toddlers climb aboard their pirate ship and set sail! They had a BLAST playing on their ship and played on it all week! 

We have 2 Sam’s Club Play Couches, but I think you could make it with one if you had some extra pillows to act as your deck inside the ship! I used the 2 thinner rectangles to create the front back of the ship. I stacked the 2 thicker rectangles to create the deck, and used the triangles to fill in the gaps and make a “steering wheel”. I put a pirate flag on the wall with masking tape to complete the ship. 

(And, because we get asked this a lot…the Sam’s Club Play Couches are AMAZING! They are great quality, clean easy, and seem to hold up to all the setups we try! My girls play with them EVERY SINGLE DAY!)

Map Skills with a Treasure Hunt

I definitely saved the best for last here. The treasure hunt was by far my toddlers’ favorite activity we did! I used this map to create a treasure map. I filled it with hand drawn pictures of places in our back yard. Then, I hid a treasure chest with some coins (the same ones I used in the number match activity) in our sand box and put an ‘X’ on top with masking tape. 

I put the map at the top of the slide and I wish I could explain in words the excitement my 3 year old had when she found the map. I had her use her finger to follow the dots on the map until she reached the next destination, then she would take off to get to the next spot. When we finally got to the end, she found the X and started digging until she found the treasure. It was seriously the sweetest and most genuine excitement. She asked to do it over and over!  I just hid the treasure in the same spot, and she would follow her map until she found the treasure!

If you don’t have a treasure chest, you could recycle a frosting or oatmeal container, or use a tupperware you have!
