It’s October, which means it is time to start all of the toddler pumpkin activities! There are SO many ways to incorporate pumpkins into your toddler’s play, and here’s a list of our FAVORITE pumpkin activities!
1 Pumpkin Races
Pumpkin Races is number 1 on the list because it has been our FAVORITE activity so far. This is similar to an egg on a spoon race and it will challenge your toddler’s balance, coordination, and concentration.
Here’s how you do it:
1 Tape 2 popsicles together to create a wide base. (You could also use a singular popsicle stick for older kids)
2 Have your toddler hold the popsicle stick and place a candy pumpkin on the end.
3 Race! If your pumpkin drops, pick it up and place it back on the stick.
It’s seriously SO easy to do! My toddler loved walking up and down the hallways with her pumpkin on her stick!
2 Pumpkin Painting In a Box
This one is fairly easy. Go to your local dollar tree (or walmart or target) and get a wooden pumpkin from the craft section. Then put your toddler in a large box with the pumpkin, a watercolor pallet, and a paint brush and let them work! Bonus, there’s no mess and they can paint the box if they want!
* Watercolor Tip: Wet the watercolor pallet and the paintbrush and avoid the forever spilling cup of water!
This has been a surprising favorite. Honestly, when I first set this activity up, I wasn’t expecting much. I needed 5 minutes to myself, and was pleasantly surprised 20 minutes later when my girls were still painting! Seriously, just try it. There’s something magical about a cardboard box!
3 Pumpkin Name Building
How stinkin’ cute are these name pumpkins? This is the perfect addition to your toddler pumpkin craft list! My 2.5 year old was obsessed with this activity (especially the glueing), and we will definitely be adding more name recognition activities to our activity list!
4 Toddler Pumpkin Activities: Pumpkin Faces
If you have a sticker lover, this toddler pumpkin activity is for YOU! It’s pretty simple, let your toddler decorate foam pumpkins with foam face stickers. Let them make silly faces, faces with 12 eyes, whatever kinds of faces they want!
My favorite part about this activity is that it’s not a one time activity! I leave the supplies out in our art station so my toddlers can create pumpkin faces all season. They LOVE it, and I love that they’re further developing their fine motor skills!
This activity does require a few supplies, but it’s worth it! (And, we saved our leftovers from last year and brought them back out again this year…STILL A HIT!)

5 Pumpkin Toss
I love this activity for kids of all ages! All you need is a plastic jack-o-lantern bucket, some pom poms, and some candy pumpkins. Let your toddlers toss the pumpkins and pom poms and try to make them into the jack-o-lantern bucket!
My younger toddler (1.5) loves to just transfer the objects from the floor to the bucket and my older toddler is exploring how the weight of the objects changes how she tosses them.
